Introduction
LingoLit ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our mobile application LingoLit (the "App") handles your information. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
We Don't Collect Your Data
LingoLit does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to our servers. We have no servers, no analytics, no tracking, and no interest in your data. Your reading habits are yours alone.
There is no user account, no login, and no registration. The App does not contain any analytics SDKs, crash reporting tools, or event tracking of any kind. We do not use Firebase, Google Analytics, Crashlytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or any similar service.
Data Stored on Your Device
All your data stays on your device and is never sent to us. This includes:
- Your book library: Titles, authors, and cover images of books you import.
- Reading progress: Current page, pages read, reading streaks, and daily goals.
- Highlights and notes: Text you highlight and any notes you add while reading.
- App preferences: Theme, font size, reminder time, and AI translation settings.
- API keys: If you use AI features, your own API keys are stored in encrypted secure storage on your device. We never see or have access to your keys.
This data is stored in a local SQLite database and encrypted secure storage on your device. None of it is transmitted anywhere unless you explicitly initiate an action (see below).
When Data Leaves Your Device
Data only leaves your device in these specific situations, all of which require your explicit action:
- AI features (user-initiated): When you request a translation, summary, or explanation, the relevant text passage is sent directly to the AI provider you chose (Google Gemini or OpenRouter) using your own API key. The request goes directly from your device to the AI provider — it never passes through our servers. See Google's Privacy Policy or OpenRouter's Privacy Policy.
- Social sharing (user-initiated): When you choose to share a quote card, the generated image is passed to the social media app you select (Instagram, Facebook, etc.) via Android's native share system. No data is sent to us.
- In-app purchases: If you subscribe to premium features, the transaction is handled by Google Play and RevenueCat. We do not collect or store your payment details. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
What We Do Not Collect
To be completely clear, LingoLit does not collect:
- Personal identification information (no name, email, phone number, or account).
- Location data.
- Advertising identifiers — AD_ID collection is explicitly disabled.
- Photos or videos — the App does not use READ_MEDIA_IMAGES or READ_MEDIA_VIDEO permissions.
- Browsing activity or app usage analytics.
- Device information or crash reports.
- Any data about what you read, when you read, or how you read.
File Access
LingoLit allows you to import PDF and EPUB files for reading. Here is how file access works:
- You select files through Android's system file picker or by opening them directly from other apps.
- The App reads selected documents solely to display them and enable features like highlighting and AI-assisted reading.
- The sharing feature may save generated quote card images to your device gallery using the Android MediaStore API (WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE on Android 10 and below only).
- The App does not browse, scan, or access any files beyond those you explicitly select.
Third-Party SDKs
The App includes the following third-party SDKs. Their data practices are governed by their own privacy policies:
- RevenueCat: Manages in-app subscriptions. Processes purchase data and device identifiers for subscription tracking. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
- Facebook SDK: Used solely for sharing quote cards to Instagram and Facebook Stories. Advertiser ID collection and automatic event logging are both explicitly disabled in the App. See Meta's Privacy Policy.
- Google Fonts: Loads typefaces from Google's servers. No personal data is sent. See Google's Privacy Policy.
Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. Since we do not collect any personal information from any user, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Effective date." We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
